Chelsea great, Alan Hudson has argued that John Obi Mikel was one of the factors responsible for Chelsea’s slump in their current campaigns. Mikel, lately has been in action regularly following the gross under-performance of first-choice midfield pair Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic. However, Mikel has failed to impress and it’s perhaps little coincidence that some of his appearances for the Blues have coincided with their poorest results of the campaign. Mikel was started in the 3-1 loss to Everton, the 2-1 away defeat to FC Porto in the Champions League, the Capital One Cup elimination at the hands of Stoke City and last weekend’s 3-1 loss at Liverpool. He also featured for 45 minutes in the Blues’ 2-1 loss away at West Ham United. Hudson, who began his career with Chelsea, and played there for six years, believes that sub-par players like Mikel and under performing striker Diego Costa are the chief reason why the West Londoners are struggling this season. ...

Port Harcourt - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has warned Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo State not to dabble into the affairs of Rivers State. The party was responding to Okorocha’s comments that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is hell-bent on taking over Rivers and Akwa Ibom States from the PDP. The party said Okorocha’s revelation is an eloquent collaboration of a similar recent pronouncement by the APC Chairman in the State, Davies Ikanya that the APC-led federal government cannot afford to lose Rivers State.

Contrary to the deadline date of 31 October, 2015 for the registration of Bank Verification Number for customers, the exercise will continue, perhaps, indefinitely, CBN has said. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in conjunction with Nigerian Inter-bank Settlement System made the statement and added that the deadline only means that any customer who has failed to get the BVN will not be able to carry out some bank transactions unless he/she do the needful. CBN spokesperson, Ibrahim Mu’azu while speaking with reporters yesterday made it clear that as from Monday, November 2, such customer will be restrained. Nevertheless, Mu’azu reckoned that there was success with the deadline issued as majority of the banks have captured the BVN of the active accounts except for those customers that choose not to participate in the process. Despite intense media speculation that national U-23 team coach, Samson Siasia would be sacked soon, a member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ahmed Yusuf Fresh has informed that the football house has no intention of sacking the Olympic silver medal-winning coach. Yusuf said: “There has never been a time we in the technical committee or at the executive committee level discussed any such thing. I am a member of both committees and never has that come up for discussion.” Fresh admitted however, that Siasia was queried after what was taken as an affront against his employers. He added: “But that was not enough for the media to suggest that it would lead to Siasia’s sack. “Siasia was queried and he has since answered to the query. It is a normal administrative procedure which should not call for speculations that are unfounded. There is no intention to sack Siasia,”he repeated.

Islamist militant group Boko Haram has released photos apparently showing a rocket-making factory in north-eastern Nigeria. The group has used rocket-propelled grenades in the past and many Nigerians have been asking where the weapons have been coming from. The photos seem to indicate that members of the group have the technical know-how to manufacture weapons. The pictures are believed to have been taken in a college in Borno state. They were sent as a Whatsapp messages to the BBC Hausa service using a telephone number from Cameroon, and have also been published on sites linked to so-called Islamic State, which Boko Haram has joined. Analysts say it looks as though the machinery is from Bama, a town in north-eastern Nigeria recently recaptured from Boko Haram. An inscription on one of the machines shows the abbreviation of Government Technical College Bama (GTCB). The equipment appears to have been donated to the college by the Educational Trust Fund (ETF) in 2005. ...
